FIRST AID For SNAKE BITE





Firstly, identify is it actually a snake bite or not 




  • Two Puncture Wounds 
  • Swelling and redness around the wounds
  • Pain at the bite site
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Blurred vision
  • sweating and salivating
  • Numbness in the face and limbs

what to do ?

  • Call 104, 108, 112, 102  ambulance immediately.
  • Note the time of the bite.
  • Keep calm and still as movement can cause the venom to travel more quickly through the body in vein.
  • Remove constricting clothing or jewelry or watch belt because the area surrounding the bite will likely swell.
  • Don’t allow the victim to walk. Carry him/her or transport them by vehicle.
  • Do not kill or handle the snake. Take a picture if you can but don’t waste time hunting it down.
  • Do lay the patient on his/her side and reduce movement of the affected area.
  • Do rush to the nearest health facility for medical treatment even in a serious issue when ambulances is not coming in time then such circumstances a person should take that patient on two wheeler with someone support. 


What not to do ?

There are also several outdated first aid techniques that are now believed to be unhelpful or even harmful:

  • Do not use a tourniquet technique.


  • Do not cut into the snake bite.
  • Do not use a cold compress on the bite or never even apply betadine.
  • Do not give the person any medications unless directed by a doctor.
  • Do not raise the area of the bite above the victim’s heart.
  • Do not attempt to suck the venom out by mouth.
  • Do not use a pump suction device. These devices were formerly recommended for pumping out snake venom, but it’s now believed that they are more likely to do harm than good.
  • Don’t lay the patient on his/her back because snake bit make a person feel vomiting majority people die due to didn't having proper knowledge of first aid and by sleeping.  

Treatments of snake bites :- 

The most important thing to do for a snake bite is to get emergency medical help as soon as possible. A doctor will evaluate the victim to decide on a specific course of treatment. In some cases, a bite from a venomous snake is not life-threatening. The severity depends on the location of the bite and the age and health of the victim. If the bite is not serious, the doctor may simply clean the wound and give the victim a Tetanus vaccine.

If the situation is life threatening, the doctor may administer antivenom. This is a substance created with snake venom to counter the snake bite symptoms. It’s injected into the victim. The sooner the antivenom is used, the more effective it will be saving of a human kind.

 how to avoid snake bites

In the bottom of the shell,wear closed shoes or boots and watch your step in the bush. Use a torch outside at night. Keep food, water and livestock outside your house. Store food and water in closed containers and livestock outside the house to prevent rats and mice entering the house. Store firewood distant from your house. Store firewood distant from buildings to prevent snakes hiding and coming into the building. Sleep off the ground and use mosquito nets to avoid snakebites during sleep. Seal holes in your walls to prevent snakes entering the house. Cut grass and clear the ground around your house. Clearing the area gets rid of hiding places for snakes.
